Fake tan application hints

Going to a dinner dance tomorrow night and putting on a bit of fake tan tonight. I find Clarins mousse is best for me. I wear gloves to put it on my body and face and I usually get a good result - apart from the back of my hands. I usually where rubber gloves to apply then take them off and rub the back of my hands over the forearm of the opposite arm. Results - sometimes ok but other times dark and patchy. Has anyone got any tips on how to improve my technique.
