My neighbor, who's 78, has had his car stolen 3 times in 3 months, He knew who was responsible, but when he told the police they just said. "sorry sir we need evidence"
So he decided to set a trap, fro the next time it happened.
He got a plank of wood, hammered about 20 nails into it, put it under the front seat cover, then waited for them to come back, which they did, lying awake in bed one night he heard the shout's of "my ass, my ass.....His car hasn't been touched since :-)

If you opened the door without disconnecting it there would be a deafening bang. Unfortunately, he was busy talking to his neighbouring allotmenteer and he forgot and opened the door. Hoist by his own petard I think you would call it.
