astra 1.4 8v problem??

hi again my dad phoned me today as his astra 1.4 ran out of petrol locally its the 1995 n reg 1.4 8v engine petrol..before it ran out of petrol it was fine drove great.....so got some fuel put it in waited few minutes tried to start it..it was virtually dead it tried to start slightly but was acting as if the battery had died etc so bumped it ...it started my dad drove it home which is like 5 minutes away parked up the engine was idling really high revving high etc then it started to misfire then died now wont start at all ...when the key is turned all i get is a click noise from the starter motor so changed the starter still same problem...so bumped it again .....car bumped was ticking over fine left it a minute ticking over ..then put in reverse to park it back up it died again and again wont start have clicking noise from starter etc?????....im a bit lost on this one ???...cam belts fine its low milage too???.......its the 8v engine with the dizzy cap etc single point injection

Change the battery for a new one, then go from there.

Check the + & - Battery terminals, check the earth, check the connections at the starter, if the battery is of the type you add water, check the level in each cells, if that fails before you purchase a new battery get the battery on the car checked by a Auto Elec ( FOC)

ok so checked for humming sound ..fuel pump seems fine as when key is turned i took pipe off engine and fuel is coming through..ive also checked for a spark by putting plug in lead onto head etc and spark is there etc its turning over but not kicking in..fuel is there spark is there....???...battery is fully charged alternator been changed too and starter motor etc????..also new fuel filter fitted today
