My DS (16 months) has had a blood shot eye for near on a week now. He woke up with it one morning and i assumed he'd rubbed/scratched it.

It has not worsened and is not the entire white of the eye - right side of the eye itself.

Should this be somehting I should take him to the docs about now?

I'd take him to the GP if it was me...or if you cannot get an appointment, try popping in to see your pharmacist...or even an optician.
Eyes are precious, so I wouldn't leave it for much longer without an expert view.

puma.....no big deal as it is almost certainly a subconjunctival haemorrhage, give it another week and if it doesn't settle by then, then take him to your GP.

This looks worse than it really is.

sorry everyone for causing confusion lol. I thought DS, DD etc were quite common terms to use.

As sqad said it is probably a conjunctival hemorrhage although you need to be clear if there has been a bleed which is washing away slowly or if the blood vessels are looking a bit angry and are prominent in a localized area. If it is the first then its a SCH if its the latter it could be an inflammatory condition like episcleritis. Both should resolve without treatment within two weeks but if no resolution soon then see your GP.

He's only 16 months though - I would see someone just in case, he can't tell you if it hurts.

I've never heard of DS or DD, btw!

lol i think its mainly parenting forums and ivillage etc that use DD, DS, DH, DS1/2/3 etc etc.
i take mine to practice nurse with things like this if its not cleared up within a few days.

All is cleared up now. It didn't seem to be bothering him, never rubbed it and there was no change in his temperment. He just looked like he'd had a very heavy night on the tiles the night before lol.
