I know normally migraine symptons are the flashing lights in the eyes etc. Has anyone experienced dizziness and feeling off balance that could be a migraine ?

Have this investigated properly though, as it could also be something else. People experience Migraines in so many different ways. I need to get away from bright light and from loud sounds, incl people talking, as these make my migraines worse. If I get a bad one, it can go on for up to 5 days and for most of that time I need to stay in a darkened room and try to sleep it off. While some migraine medication takes the edge off, I have never found any that can stop it. What my GP has given me to take regularly is amitriptyline as it can reduce the number of migraines I get and their severity. I have tried Imigran, as squad mentioned and it does help, but makes me feel sick. I also have migraleve, which again takes the edge off and Morrison's own migraine relief, which is basically ibuprofen lysine. Your GP should help you find what will work for you, once you are sure this is a migraine you are suffering. I use cold packs for my head, which do help as well. Good luck, hope you don't get this regularly. Best wishes.
whoops, sorry pressed the wrong key....
as I was saying - I noticed from your FB page you had a bad migraine over the bank holiday weekend. I used to get the usual ones, of zig zag lights in the eyes, followed by the headache, but these have gradually gone. I think mine are hormonal and stress related. I have a docs appointment next Tuesday.
Hope Ian is not so windy this morning (:o) glad he was o.k.

They are horrible, I get menstrual migraines, I have tried changing to the mini pill to avoid the attacks, but if I miss a pill, or get any breakthrough bleeding, I immediately get a migraine, so the change of pill is not helping much.
My mother also used to get migraines and she discovered that it was as a result of high blood pressure, so it may be worth a visit to the doctor if you have not had this tested.
Ibruprofen helps, but Imigran or sumatriptan (same thing) works much better and for me if I take one, tends to clear it up pretty well. You can get these on prescription from your doctor, normally a pack of 6 which is much cheaper than paying approx £7 for 2 tablets over the counter.
Hope this helps

in 24 and have several migraine a week this has been happening since i was 10! cant hold down a ob aqs i have to much time off and i need alot of help looking after my daughter once i get one, all i can do is go into a dark room with a cold flannel on my head and try to sleep it off this can last for 72 hours, recently the doctor has gave zomig to try and they are fantastic, i have one as soon as i feel a migraine coming on and they work within 20 mins, hes also given me beta blockers to try and scale down my attacks and this seems to be working but havent had them long enough yet... migraines are the worse possible pain and people who do not suffer with them do not know what you go through, i'd much rather go through labour than have a migraine! i have every symptom possible and have ended up in hospital several times
leanne - that sounds horrible what you are going through. I started with migraines in my 20's and they were always with the lights flashing in my eyes and the horrific headaches, but in the last 10 years I now get a dizzy feeling and when that is gone a headache appears. I still, now and again, get the flashing lights type, but have no headache with it. Mr. Den also suffers quite badly with migraines and seems to get them for a week on and off and then they disappear for a month or so.
Its good you have positive results with the meds you are taking.
