I need to get another run in mid week, around 5 - 6 miles, if I were to do it first thing in the morning should I have breakfast before or after?
If after, should I eat something the night before just before I go to bed?
I always eat breakfast first, about 75 minutes before running. I think this is probably an individual thing, though - you could try it on an empty stomach and see what happens. My guess is you'd hit the wall, but you never know. I would have a late night snack if you try it that way.
I cant run within 1-2 hours of eating. I stitch up if i do. Perhaps a small power bar and/or banana, something light but with some carbs and a lucozade.
Iam not sure how much benefit you would get from loading up the night before, it would depend what you eat, the length of time you sleep and your own metabolism/digestive cycle.
Just as important, if not more, is recovery after and ensuring you replace lost fluids and nutrients
cheers, I don't think I fancy the breakfast 75 mins before the run part as I struggle to get up at half 7 as it is, this will mean me getting up at 6!
I'll be taking a lucozade cus I've got to practice taking on fluids during my run for my longer ones.
I can’t eat first thing so I just grab a cup of coffee and a biccy to kick start things and take a couple of sachets of these out with me on the bike so I don‘t bonk…
cool, i'll give the carbing up before bed a go next week, see how I fair then if that doesn't go so well I'll try the energy bars, don't fancy carrying a banana with me, for whatever reason!
