hi, i've had the milk and more service for about 6 years now. Previously my milk would arrive at 4amor 5 am. Recently it's been coming at about 9:30 am. I have spoken to both milk and more and my milk man who seem to think this is perfectly reasonable (i leave for work at 8:30 so if it hasn't come by then it sits in the sun all day)
i think i'll have to cancel. Does anyone else think 9:30 is reasonable?

No 9:30 is not reasonable. We get our milk delivery about 5am and like you leave to go to work early, if it was 9:30 it would be out all day, which is a sure sign no one is at home. I think if it were me i would be cancelling.
This is why I stopped our delivery many years back. We were leaving for work at 8am and it sat on the door step all day. Now simply have the milk delivered with the Tesco home shop and top it up from supermarket during the week as required. Lot cheaper also :-)
Buy what you need for the week & freeze it, just get a bottle out before you go to bed and you have fresh milk each day.
A lot - lot cheaper too.

jem
I don't think its reasonble. I also wouldn't freeze milk either, its not the same when its defrosted. I would just cancel and pick my milk up at the supermarket, it will save you money too.
I didn't realise there were still milkmen around, how quaint!
most deliver very early, and that would be a problem, as if it is left on door might give notice to any would be burglar you are out, so perhaps consider changing.
I've frozen milk every week for years there's no difference in the taste (or I wouldn't do it) My daughter does it too and she gives it to small children.
We freeze semi-skimmed and it works just fine for us.
Perhaps the full-fat stuff may be different, I wouldn't know.

jem.
you lot are lucky, milk about 10.00 ish post about 1.30 ish
I stopped my delivery years ago for the same reason.
I freeze my milk every week never a problem, but if left for long period of time might be.
Yes cancel it. Its a shame for the industry to watch the demise of the milkman, but at this rate they only have themselves to blame.

Do as we all do and pick it up at the supermarket, topping up from a local store in between shops. We live in a rural area and always have a couple of packets of supermarket UHT (which is far superior now than it used to be) for those unexpected moments when you need more milk and the shop is a 5 mile drive.
What" tome" ?

Well, our milkman turned up with a copy of Anna Karenina.

he he

=0)
having just taken UHT milk when we were away camping maidup - I agree with you - it was perfectly fine and not at all like I remember.

In answer to the original question, no it isn't reasonable. we do have a milkman who delivers round here and he screeches into my neighbours at about 7.30/8 ish - if I see him, but I leave around that time, so I don't risk getting it delivered and it sitting all day.
It's delivered at 4am here but don't get me started on the post!
the filtered milk (Cravendale type) is also brilliant...has a hugely long shelf life and is much cheaper than delivery milk. I hate oath and detest UHT.
"oath" well i do curse at it, but I meant of course "loath"
I use semi skimmed Jemisa and the few times I've frozen it I've found it tastes really watery. Each to their own I guess.
I truthfully cannot tell the differnce between Saunsbury's 0.1% UHT and 0.1% fresh milk. I just prefer pouring it out of the fresh "bottle" rather than the carton.

We don't drink much milk, maybe two/three pints a week between the two of us.
I used to have semi-skimmed milk delivered years ago at about 9 (after I left for work) and as my doorstep was right on the street, it either sat in the sun all day, or people used to nick it on their way to work! So I then started buying it at the weekend and freezing it (no difference in taste).

I now buy Countrylife semi-skimmed in bags from Tesco, which is easier to freeze and reduces packaging.
the milkman near me delivers about 10am, I think this is too late personally, yet on the day he calls around for payments he is there at 9.30am!
