Sqad - Wooohooo - Are You There ?

Sqad - just phoned Docs to get my repeat thyroid blood test result from Friday of last week - do you remember me saying my TSH was 6.something - well now it is 9.9, thats gone up since my last bloods in May.............I have increased my Thyroxine to 100mg per day (as I was taking 100mg and 75mg on alternate days). How long do you think before they kick in, as I am feeling so low at the moment. My fasting glucose was 6.0 which I think is high.......

This reading seems to have gone down a few notches very fast since May up until now - don't know why this has dramatically changed, as I have been fine up until the last blood test. After I had my op 6 years ago, it took 2 years of back and forth to the Nuffield to get my levels stabilised - now I am back to square one again, and feel like crying. (:o(

Jno - I rang the surgery this morning, spoke to receptionist, who looked up my results on computer screen, note from Doc said 'no action needed' I asked what the TSH levels were, and when she said 9.9 I knew that was even worse than the last reading back in May of 6.0 - not sure why Doc wrote 'no action needed'. Receptionist said she would message the practice nurse at their other surgery to give me a ring to discuss results. Otherwise the only appointment for Doc is Friday of next week.

Den, Can you not speak to another doctor in the practice.

I have to admit, we are quite lucky. We are always able to get a doctors appointment the same day. There is always a duty doctor. My own doctor is extremely popular and it's hard to get an appointment, but if you want to speak to him and leave a message he always phones.

Can you not speak to your doctor on the telephone?

If I were nearer I would come and have a cuppa with you!! xx

Only one Doc on duty at any one time in our surgery - have phoned Mr. Den at work and he has told me to book an appointment with the consultant I used to see at the Nuffield, as he is an Endocrinologist, he could pehaps, advise me better. What annoys me Lottie, is, when I saw GP back in May, she said just do a repeat blood test in August, but in the meantime take up a hobby, get myself fit by doing a dance class etc - I can hardly put one foot in front of the other at the moment and feel very fatigued - which would also explain why I feel depressed......(:o(

I really do sympathise - my Thyroid dose has varied over several years and i'm now on 75mg, but some days feel completely washed out. I don't like to make a fuss, and all other routine blood tests were normal, but would love a magic wand to sort me out! My daughter was overactive and she had part of it removed by radioactive treatment, but she's struggled to get a level which is right. I'm afraid I don't understand all the TSH readings, and have to trust the doctor, but sometimes I wonder if they gave me another 25mg whether it would make a difference. I was on 100 for many years, but they reduced it, don't know why, and I've struggled ever since.
Sorry to barge in, do hope you feel better soon. Have you been in touch with the British Thyroid society? They produce a newsletter which I found useful, but then I stopped taking it. Might start having it again now i've thought about it.

I would love to go to a dance class DEN. I get very depressed too as this arthritis of mine gets worse and worse. My feet seem to be the worse affected now. Some days I walk very well and on other days, like yesterday, I can hardly bear to even stand. Got a Rheumatology appt. first week in August. Same week I have another hospital appointment because I have an incisional hernia.

Two old crocks aren't we!!

I think Mr Den is right. Will you have to go through your GP to see the consultant again?

Hello Hellywelly - like your daughter, I had an overactive thyroid from he age of 10 years old. Was on meds up until the age of 16, when everything was fine. No probs up until I reached the age of 39, then it went overactive again. Was back on Carbimazole, which seemed to work, then after 5 years, nothing controlled it. I was offered radioactive treatment, but despite much pressure put on me to have it, I refused. Went for surgery 6 years ago - wasn't pleasant, but as I had lots of nodules on my thyroid, they couldn't rule out cancer. Anyway, glad I had the op, as I said, took 2 years go get some sort of 'normal' levels, but eventually I had felt the best I had ever felt in my entire life. Now its all gone pear shaped. Sounds like you need to up your dosage a little, Helly. xx

18 months ago when I called for the results of a specimen analysis, I was told by the surgery reception that it had been filed "no action needed". I immediately asked to see my GP who consulted her computer and said a terrible mistake had been made as someone in the practice had "misinterpreted" the result. This was immediately preceding a cancer diagnosis so I am now extremely wary when I hear the words "no action needed".

Lottie, I think we were definately separated at birth, you and me - hahaha -sorry to hear you are low aswell, I think arthritis pain is very debilitating. What is an incisional hernia ? Mr. Den has a hernia in the middle of his chest.

A hernia on the site of an operation scar Den, usually on the abdomen. I am scarred from hipbone to hipbone. The hernia might have been there for some time but it made itself very known about a month ago. I had had a bad bout of IBS and was full of pain at the time and noticed it then. It's not huge but doctor wants me to see a specialist. I have read that at my age they often leave well alone as there is not a great success rate with repairs of that sort. It's not even happened again since I noticed it.

Den....calm down...calm down.

Your blood sugar is within normal limits.

Your TSH is high...but we expected that and you have increased your thyroxine to 100mcgms daily and you may have to increase this even further. it will take at least 6 weeks to "kick in"
You should have another TSH done in 6 weeks time and don't be surprised if it is still high,

It is difficult to understand how a Dr could see a TSH of 9uU/mL and say "no action needed. There must surely be a mistake in communications.
Ring and ask to speak to the Dr. in person.

Morning Sqad - thanks for getting back to me - I spoke to the practice nurse yesterday on the phone and she had a word with the GP who said my T4 was within normal limits, so they couldn't understand why I am feeling so ill. They said have another blood test in 3 months time, to which I said, this is far too long. Mr. Den still thinks I should go back to see the endocronologist at the Nuffield, that I was under for 2 years after my op.

I was hoping the increase in meds would kick in sooner than 6 weeks, as am feeling so low. I am also concerned that the increase in meds, will affect my normal T4. I can't understand why this has happened, after feeling so well for a few years - the only thing I could contribute to this, is the stress of my Mum over the past year.

hi den, I have recently been upped to 125mcg and I noticed the improvement within a week, I hope you are feeling better soon, you should push for a referral to your endo
