It does seem rather drastic, but it is quite amazing how many Insulin dependent diabetics have uncontrolled diabetes due to "boozing" and complete disregard for dieting.......mainly in the young adults and believe me it is quite frightening as they know the risks, but "couldn't care less" These people are costing the NHS millions in drugs hospitalization and treating the consequences of uncontrolled diabetes.
I suppose this edict is based upon statistics surrounding road traffic accidents.
Thanks looby, will watch this with interest.

Sqad, this is the kind of rant that starts witch hunts against particular groups in our society - in this case young, insulin dependent diabetics, who, if your statements are to be believed, are single-handedly bringing down the NHS. While there may be some young people who fit your description, I don't believe that it is because they "couldn't care less". It is more likely to be the overwhelming need to fit in with their peer group, that overcomes fear of the consquences of their illness, especially when those consequences are long-term, and may not be immediately felt. This is part of being young - wisdom for the future develops slowly with age, and young people need to be supported until it develops, not written off as "couldn't care less".
