Can someone tell me if the following exercise regimen is as effective as going to the gym 2 x 1 hour sessions a week of CV and weightlifting exercise.

I'm thinking of changing to the following so that I get into a routine of going 5-6 times a week but for less time. Obviously the amount of time overall spent exercising is less, however, here goes:

Doing 15 one-minute bursts of activity on an exercise bike, interspersed by one-minute rests.

Many thanks.

What are your goals, weight loss, a more toned physique or building more muscle mass?

Thanks Craftypig - good question. Not so much to lose weight but that would be a bonus but to burn fat and tone my physique so that I am able to fit into my clothes comfortably.
Personally I would recommend joining a class of some kind, maybe three or four times each week, with a variation to keep it interesting, circuit training, maybe body pump, then perhaps a session of aerobics, then there's this new zumba routine that's becoming popular now or maybe a session of spinning.
HIIT as you are doing on the bikes is a great way to burn fat. Try it on a treadmill or out on the road, one minute jogging, one minute sprinting, repeat.
An all over body workout class (such as kettlebell classes) combined with HIIT will get you some great results.
