They say your skin, muscles and bones (and probably other things) thin with age. Does the lens in the eye thin? If it does, could there be problems in older age if the lens has had laser surgery for myopia in previous decades?

This is not my field.

The ageing cornea doesn't get thinner with age, but becomes thicker and more rigid, making refraction of light difficult.

Laser surgery CAN, but UNCOMMONLY when used for myopia, cause thinning of the cornea.

In my opinion previous laser surgery would not preclude a good result from cataract surgery.

Thanks sqad. I was thinking along the lines of - if someone has the lens thinned by laser to correct myopia, what would happen if the lens thins even more due to age? Would it completely mess up their eyesight. If the lens doesn`t thin due to age then it wouldn`t be a problem. I`m -6 short-sighted and I`ve often thought of having something done. The thought that they still don`t know what will happen 30 years down the line puts me off.
237sj...as i have said I do not think that previous laser surgery will preclude a good result following cataract surgery.
