I have a lot of chest pain, apparent hiatus hernia
7 Answers
Hi everyone I have been in massive pain with chest and thought t first it may be heart attack, after significant testing come t the conclusion it is a hiatus hernia, I am massive pain every day and I am just wondering what the best thing to do is, whether it will be best to be operated upon or what, I am seeing a specialist soon and am wondering what he will say if I anyone can shed any light upon this I will be very grateful!! I will add to this as that was an original question and i have recieved answers. But this morning I woke up with a chest pain that I could not deal with so went to the doctors and they haven't said much at all they haven't given me anything for the pain a all, and I am seeing a specialist on the 15th and am wondering if I can insist that I am operated on rather than just altering diet and changing medication, I really do want them to operate so then it is all gone, it may be good to add they think the problem was due to a massive overload of steroid use, Thanks alex :) x

If I eat protein and vegetables I am usually okay. Avoid wheat, bread, potatoes, pasta if you can. Those were the things that gave me that "stuck" feeling and often resulted in just awful chest pain. If I stop taking Omeproazole (I have 20mg first thing each day) I have to take Gaviscon constantly through the day, and eating is really hard. Are you already on omeprazole? I thought for months I would need an operation but I have managed to control it with diet and medication.
I also take omeprazole and if I forget I suffer badly later on in the day,and then need to take gaviscon. But I can eat anything as long as I take the tab in the morning. What happens is the stomach acid comes up into your gullet and burns right up to your throat sometimes, you shoud go to your GP and ask for suitable medication.
Yes it is confirmed by doctors and thanks guys really appreciate it :) I wouldn't mind taking omeprozol but I'm only 19 and my diet is just all over the place it seems anything may set it off I'm seeing a surgeon on Wednesday and will see what he says as I hear it's nt the nicest of operations, cheers again guys :) x
An op for this is often a last resolution as it is quite a delicate operation, hence more danger. I suffered from this and could at one stage not even eat as my guts where on fire, as it were. I put off going to the doc for ages as I was sure I had severe stomach cancer.
Some horrible looking pink liquid (gaviscone?) gave some relief initially but after a short while the omeprazole took over and I have not suffered since. I can even eat my beloved chinese food now.
