I also take statins - the top dose unfortunately, although if it keeps me healthy I don't mind. I took a small dose of aspirin for years - prescribed - then there were adverse reports and my doctor stopped prescribing them. Now it is back again to good reports. I wish they would make up their minds. It's like being on a seesaw. At the moment I am not taking them but I am a great believer in living as long as you can. Now - do I take them - or do I don't?
My MIL loves these types of stories, she saw this a couple of years ago and instead of taking the 1/2 tablet that was suggest took 5 asprin a day (she wanted to be sure she did'nt get a heart attack)!!!!
She ended up in hospital puking blood up from a burst ulcer caused by the tablets!!!
Old people eh!

First of all, all my comments are in line with the OP and that is a daily dose of 75mgms of Aspirin.
@welshy......I have no idea, as i feel that a combination of statins and Aspirin would be ideal for your condition of hereditary hypercholesterolaemia. Ask your GP for his reasoning.
@ummmm....by fatal you mean can "kill". I have never know 75 mgms of aspirin kill anybody. Yes aspirin can cause bleeds in the lining of the stomach due to irritation, but these are extremely uncommon and any bleed should never cause a death with reasonable medical care. Many small dose aspirins are enteric coated and never come into contact with the stomach lining thus avoiding gastric bleeds.
@ starby....for Christ's sake starby, you are in your 80's and have "bucked" the system......well done. it matters not a jot whether you take aspirins now at your stage in life.......live a bit, eggs bacon sausage, chips now and again.....your have earned that.
It is important to note that aspirin doesn't prevent heart attacks and some cancers, but reduces the incidence.......quite a difference in meaning.
