I haven't answered before, because you were asking for personal experience and I have not had surgery or have i got a hiatus hernia.
You will only have a laparotomy in the unlikely event that the surgeon cannot get to the "works" via a laparoscope.
For the first 6 weeks you will have a regulated diet given to you by the surgical team, but after that.......
You'll be most comfortable breaking up your meals into 5 or 6 small portions throughout the day. Stay away from acidic foods such as chocolate, spicy food and citrus fruit. Limit your intake of fatty foods that are fried or baked with fat.
That's it.
