Hello my partner has been suffering with bad back for some years on and off nothin that didnt go eventually but this past year it been getting a lot worse,He now seems to get muscle problems like trapped muscle nerve issues. He can be ok one min then all of sudden he is etting very bad pains e.g shoulder blades to the side of, lower spine feels bruiced, the left side of back very painfull when been layed down and gets up, same when he turns his head and his neck has it also. These pains come and go but his neck ,shoulder and basically all over has been giving him big painfull problems. The doctors did blood tests and told him he has ANKYLOSINGSPONDYLITIS but would this cause all these problems also lack of energy and tiredness, its effecting his work even though he battles on and goes.he takes ibropulfin wich help a little but give him bad stomach.Hes 36 and is feeling sorry for himself as we have our first child on way so he now wants this to get cleared up but just seems tobe getting worse.Any advice would be good on what to do.He is going to see a consultant but thats not for another 4 weeks...Willthis just keep getting worse or will it clear as this started as just dull back ache and after several years has become so much more.

I'm afraid, you both seem to have underestimated quite what this diagnosis means.

Hold on.

All your questions depend on the diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis which in the early stages is difficult to diagnose.

Wait for the Consultant's opinion.
Have he had any bodywork done i.e. holistic therapy?
Could it be his posture? Try and find some exercises.
