stopped in an overweight truck
this may have to be put into the motoring section but thought it could also go here as i think this is also an appropriate place. scenario is that if someone is stopped by vosa for having an overweight vehicle on the transporter he is driving then what sort of fine and or points on licence would be imposed, taking into consideration that the drivers company insist it is the drivers responsibility whether he agrees to drive the overweight truck or not

each Bench has its own guidelines. For example in Kent (which takes a particularly stern approach to overweight lorries due to the high number of cases brought to their attention from Channel port traffic) their tables suggests a fine of £815 for 10% overweight and £1,295 for 20%. These fines are for a driver pleading guilty. You can add 50% to those figures for a driver found guilty following a trial.
