Low Vitamin D, Low Calcium and Gout.
3 Answers
Hi Everyone.
Can anyone help me. A month ago I went to the Doctors complaining of these symtoms:Pains and Weakness in my arms and Armpits, bad Pins and Needles in my arms on awakening, and my Elbows and fingers felt Arthritic. I also had tingling in my head and down my face now and then, and hand trembling. I couldnt sleep with it. I had a Blood Test and was diagnosed with extremely Low Vitamin D and Calcium Levels. I was put on 'Solgar Vitamin D3 1000IU (Fish and Liver Oils)' Within days I started to feel better. After a couple of weeks however, I woke up with a throbbing Toe and couldnt walk. I went to the Hospital and was diagnosed with Gout. I was on Crutches for a week, and limping heavily for another. After reading Gout Forums I bought a bottle of 'Black Cherry Juice Concentrate' from Holland and Barrat two days ago, and had half the bottle mixed with water. and half a pound of Red Cherries. It gave me bad Diarrea for 2 hours, so I had to drink plenty of water to replace what I had lost. The pain in my Toe actually seemed to get worse that night. However, the very next morning (yesterday) I woke up and the Gout had completely vanished. Worried that it may be the Vitamin D tablets that caused it as they have Fish Liver oils in them, I never took one yesterday and went to the Pharmacy and bought 'Solgar Vitamin D3 1000IU (Cholecalciferol)' instead, and took one of those. However, this morning my arm pain and trembling is back. What should I do? Thank you.

Your original symptoms could well be due to your low calcium levels and Vitamin D deficiency and this is supported by the improvement in you health following the administration of ViT D3.
It is extremely unlikely that your "throbbing toe" was a side effect of Solgar D3
It is likely that your new symptoms were due to gout (a simple blood test would have confirmed this)
I would have of thought that there are easier ways to treat gout than half a pound of red cherries mixed with water............????
I would return to Solgar D3 as you have done and monitor the situation for the next few days.

Hi,
Thank you. I know the Diarrea was caused by the Concentrated Cheery Juice and Fresh Cherries, but it definately killed my Gout. I just wont drink so much in future and leave out the Fresh Cherries on top. I have decided to take my Original Vitamin D3 tablets as they were definately working, and was feeling quite normal until I substituted one yesterday. And you may be right Sqad. It may be something else that caused the Gout. It maybe Just a coincidence that i have two 'unrelated' disorders occuring at the same time. Never realised though, that missing out one day of these Vitamin tablets could cause such a quick relapse. I Wonder if ill have to be on them for life? Cheers.
