Swelling at side of the face under right ear and also just slightly lower on neck. Painful to chew and swallow. If this was mumps would it be on both sides?

not got any medical qualifications, but could be a blocked gland.
I had a lymph node removed from that area, just a swelling that wouldn't go away and was quite noticeable, no pain, no irritation.

Thank you both. I'd better make an appointment with the GP, I suppose
Sounds like a blocked/infected parotid gland (produces saliva). Do you find it swells more as you eat, then goes down again?
i had a problem with my parotid gland and it was blocked with a saliva stone.
suggest seeing doctor if that's what you think

Could well be mumps......my bet.

Could also be a stone in the Parotid duct, in which case it would sell up and become painful when you eat.

What would I do?......Ibuprofen 600mgms straightway away and monitor the situation for the next 24 hours.
sandy........the singular of mumps is mumps....;-)
I really hope for your sake it isn't mumps, it's awful when you're an adult.
My oldest son (who passed it on to me) had it on one side, got better and went back to school. A week later they called me to take him home, it had come up on the other side. Quite common apparently.
Mumps are very painful. My son only had it on one side.
