Calf Muscle

Hi All, any advice gratefully received.

I tore my right calf muscle falling up some stairs about 5 years ago.

Over the past few weeks I have had an ache in the same calf, which seems to be getting worse. I thought I felt something "go" a couple of weeks ago and since then it hasn't felt right at all. It feels very tight and seems to go down my calf into my Achilles/foot. It seems a bit bigger than my left calf, though I'm pretty sure it isn't a DVT as I have injured it previously and I also seem to be getting a lot of cramp in that same calf.

I have been wearing some tubigrip and wondered if this is the right thing to do. Am a bit loathe to go to doctors as seem to be almost living there at the moment!!!!!

Thanks.

Sounds like a tear of the Plantaris Tendon......Google it and have a read and then get back to us.

Wearing a support such as tubigrip and taking NSAID's e,g Ibuprofen would be a good start to evaluate the response.

Thanks Squad.

I think you might be right, though pain starts about half way down the calf and on Google it mentions the knee.

Doesn't help as I walk to and from work and the only way I get relief when walking is by turning my foot outwards.

Will put my tubigrip back on and start the Ibuprofen to see how it goes.

Thanks again.
No problem....don't forget to let us know.
I think that it sounds like a tear to your gastrocnemius muscle.

Try Googling gastrocnemius tear and gastrocnemius excercises.

Good luck
fabsec....wolf has provided the other likely cause.......the treatment is the same.
