"Inside Health" - an R4 show about health matters, has recently run a couple of episodes focusing on the issue of overdiagnosis, particularly with reference to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), and, for pretty much everyone over the age of 30 in the UK it seems, Hypertension.

Each episode is about 30 mins long, but if you have been diagnosed with such illnesses, or are taking medication for the same, you would probably find the shows very interesting.

Take home message from the broadcast is that lifestyle is incredibly important from early adulthood.Following such healthy diet and exercise advice can lead to an avoidance of the diseases themselves in later years, but can also prevent the need for early interventions and medicalisation.

I have my doubts about achieving longevity by lifestyle or diet. What comes to mind are 2 long living male adults who were incarcerated in prison for many years. I am referring to Hess and also Mandela who spent many years inside.
In fact longevity seems to occur under near starvation conditions with little exercise. Also recently a factual TV program said you can reduce major illness by fasting 2 days a week.
