I'm due to have an MRI scan next week on my Parotid Glands. This is the third MRI I've had on them in the last 10 years, with the last one last week. I don't normally suffer from claustrophobia but I'm finding the panicking is getting worse. During last week's scan. I started panicking when the perspex face mask was placed over my face and they had to reposition me on the table as well as having a technician stay with me in the scanner room. I feel so ashamed about behaving like a child regarding it all.
I've spoken to a locum GP about this at my surgery as the hospital has recalled me for another scan at 4pm next Wednesday. The doctor prescribed two 1mg lorazepam tablets and told me to take one lorazepam before bed the night before and the other lorazepam one hour before the scan.
I'm failing here to see the benefits of taking the one the night before. Does lorazepam last this long in the body? Won't I be drowsy throughout the day? Is there a better interval between tablets or do you think that the doctor's instructions are fine given the time of the MRI scan?
I think that the advice you have been given is excellent. It is a small dose of Lorazepam and the bed-time one will give you a good night's sleep and the one before your MRI will do the trick. Drowsiness? "might" occur, but is a chance well worth taking.
