I have had a sore throat for seven days and have treated it as follows:-
1. Warm salt water gargle, several times a day.
2. Dequadine tablets, (10 mg Benzocaine and 0.25 Dequalinium Sulphate, 8 per day maximum.
3.UltraChloraseptic, anaesthetic Throat spray, containing Benzocaine 0.71%w/v...8 times per day maximum.
The instructions which came with 2 and 3 state that they should not be used for more than 3 days and that ends on Tuesday at 11am.
4. I have an appointment at 11am on Tuesday but I will phone my doctor tomorrow for advice. (I cannot visit him as I have to be at the dentist for a crown to be replaced).
5. I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 5 years old.
6. Only a slight improvement is noticeable and I still find it difficult to eat, drink and take tablets. I do not smoke.
7. Do you think I will be able to get a prescription for penicillin?
Thank you for your reply, bednobs. I read somewhere that antibiotics are not normally prescribed for sore throats.
I did, however, once have Amoxycillin prescribed by a dentist and it worked a treat.
