Wired Teeth

My grandson aged 12 has just had a teeth straighteners fitted in his mouth.
He finds it difficult to eat with them.
Is it possible to take the device out for mealtimes and refit them afterwards?
He lives abroad with my son and when I saw him last year his teeth looked fine.
Any comment would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

If they are fixed braces, no.

If they are the train tracks that are cemented to the teeth with wires fitted then no you can't take them out. If it is just a retainer fitted onto a plate the fits over the teeth then yes they can come out. If fact if they are the retainer type then tht should come out for eating and cleaning but the other type can't come out.

My spn has these braces, after a few days things settle down and he'll be able to eat normally.

There are so many different types of braces now that you really need to ask the orthodontist who fitted them as it depends on the treatment plan. When I had my braces first fitted I had fixed on the bottom but removable on the top. However because of the alignment on my teeth I was not allowed to eat with the removable one taken out because my top teeth would have smashed down onto the brackets on the bottom teeth. So we can't give you generic advice - ask the ortho! Unfortunately eating with braces on is always gross and uncomfortable and you just have to deal with it and modify what you eat if necessary.

My daughter had a brace fitted about 2 months ago. At first it was uncomfortable as you would expect. Now she says she hardly notices. She started eating soft food cut into small pieces, now she eats normally. Time!
