The Health Minister wants to limit abortions to 12 weeks. In my opinion the decision should be made by women not men.
A poll should be taken from the opinions of midwives, lady doctors and nurses whether 12, 20, or 24 should be the legal date.
Two of my wonderful grandchildren were born premature twins at 24 weeks. They spent 6 weeks in the special care unit but are perfect now, 8 months and over 20lb each but just 2lb at birth. The idea that an abortion could be performed at 24 weeks is abhorrent
12 weeks is far too early, IMO. Most women don't announce their pregnancies until 12 weeks, due to many miscarriages in the first trimester.... and they said on the radio this morning that many tests for abnomalities can't be undertaken as early as 12 weeks, it has to be later in the pregnancy.
Robert, I don't understand why the poll would be lady doctors - these decisions should be taken on a clinical basis, not emotively only by females.
Educated people who understand the clinical processes of abortion, foetal development, abnormality tests and all the rest of it should make the decision.
Whether they are men or women is totally irrelevant.
