Theres little else you can do I'm afraid. You need to keep the water really really clean though, is the tank filtered?

Thank you for your reply yes I have filters Which I clean and change on a regular basis The fish is about 7 years old and was my fathers whilst he was alive hence my reason for trying to do my best for it x
I know nothing about fish except which one I like with my chips, so sorry I can't help. But I did a search and found this which might be of use to you. Hope you get it sorted.

When you say you clean and change them on a regular basis do you mean the filter media? [sponges and so on inside]. They do not need changing just rinse the in tank water and put them back in the filter.
The filter media is where the good bacteria that eat the ammonia grow and if you over clean them you will get a ammonia and or nitrite spike. This in turn makes the water toxic to the fish and could be the cause of the bubble eye. Bubble eye is generally seen in poor water conditions.
