re the Hiliary Clinton saga.

I am confused.........the facts are only available to me via the media.

If the cerebral blood clot was a consequence of her head injury, then what is the rationale of anti coagulants (Warfarin)?

Maybe the clot is nothing to do with the concussion? Maybe they just found it when they were checking up on her after the fall. She had a DVT once. Maybe she`s prone to it and needs to be on Warfarin anyway.

I`m just assuming Sqad but maybe when "they" assumed it was to do with the concussion, the media got hold of it and ran with the story. Maybe the medical people have more information now.

Clinton was admitted to New York-Presbyterian hospital on Sunday after doctors discovered the clot during a follow-up exam to a concussion she suffered in mid-December.

Initially, few details were released about her condition. But late on Monday, Dr Lisa Bardack of the Mt Kisco Medical Group and Dr Gigi El-Bayoumi of George Washington University released a statement that gave the location of the clot.

"In the course of a routine follow-up MRI on Sunday, the scan revealed that a right transverse sinus venous thrombosis had formed. This is a clot in the vein that is situated in the space between the brain and the skull behind the right ear," they said.

Very occasionally an extradural haematoma can be associated with a cerebral sinus thrombosis. Difficult to say what part the fall played.
She has a past history of leg DVT in 1998 according to this..

surely the rationale for anticoagulants in the presence of any clot is to prevent more blood sticking to it at making it larger?

bednobs...that depends upon where the clot is and what is causing it.
If in a vein or an artery, then i would agree, but if the clot was outside a main vessel and was the result of bleeding, then giving anticoagulants would be a disaster.
