Hi Rosie I broke my left ankle a couple of years ago, it was the outer bone of the two bits. I was off work for 3 months almost to the day. Oddly enough, other than when I actually fell and broke the bone, I wasn't in much pain. The time I spent on crutches was a nightmare, putting all (my not insignificant weight) on my other leg really did my right knee in, and then my shoulders were pretty painful as well .... It shouldn't be hurting at all, I would seriously think about going back to your GP and asking for a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon - or, if you can afford it, arrange to see someone privately. I only had a plastercast for a couple of days, insisted on having one of those aircast boot things instead, couldn't bear the plaster shell, it was so uncomfortable 24/7. I do get the occasional twinges in my left ankle, especially in the cold and wet weather. If it hurts you a lot, go and see someone about it. Hope this is helpful, Chox.
