What is it this time of year that is making me suffer so badly with hay fever like symptoms? As soon as I open the front door, my eyes are streaming. My eyes are red, sore and I have bags under my eyes. They crust up at night too. Have had this for 2 weeks now and have been taking a antihistamine tablet every day (sometimes 2) plus prescribed eye drops of which I have tried several kinds as none of them seem to make any difference. I had the same thing last year and it lasted until mid April. It's getting me down so much and I know there is probably nothing I can do (except maybe move!!). Could it be tree pollen?

It's a bit early, cindy, especially in this damp cold weather. Mine usually starts in March. Tree pollen's not out yet, not even the catkins are releasing pollen yet.
Doesn't sound like allergic symptoms to me....sounds like bacterial conjunctivitis.

sorry...bacterial conjunctivitis though.
There are quite a few trees around me coming into flower. I have noticed mild hayfever over the last week or two.
Just odd...why would you get allergic symptoms only in the eyes and not in the nose and why would you get "crusting" at the end of the day if it was an allergy?
I thought the crusting suggested conjunctivitis.
Is there any building/contruction work going on by you - even road building?
