Could you save someone's life perhaps? Try this little 5-question quiz from St John's Ambulance and see how you get on. I know absolutely nothing about first aid and yet got 4 out of 5 right. Came unstuck on 5th but am still amazed I did so well. Not a chance against all the medical folks on here of course.

Have a go and see how you do:-) Oh and you can order a First Aid brochure for FREE as well.

4/5 and I would argue about the first answer. They say don't do heimlich until you have tried backslaps. Okay that may be a counsel of perfection but the heimlich would be more likely to solve the problem, and would be the next thing after the backslaps fail.
I got 5/5. I did a first aid course about 10 years ago but my certificate expired some time ago. I should really book another course or maybe do a refresher.
Phew, 5/5. Anything less might have been embarrassing!
Info might be a bit dated though, latest advice (via the Vinny Jones campaign) is 'no kissing'. Schools of thought differ on that one though.
Guidelines change almost yearly when we do basic CPR courses in work.
I got 5 out of 5 :) - I have taken a first aid course, and I have a very good paramedic friend ;-)
I got the last one wrong too :(

Be interesting to see if anyone agrees with you over the first answer woof. I thought I'd learned something now I'm not so sure.
Good for you for remembering from 10 years ago tiggs. Doubt I could.
I also got the last one wrong but have no first aid training. Whether I'd be able to do any of it in reality is a completely different question.
I did have to think about the last one but then remembered the number of breaths.
4/5 happy with that
I've held a first aid certificate continuously since the dawn of time.
I got 5/5

( I know, I know, you want to slap me for being smug)
5/5 Although if 4 had 'check to see if he is bladdered'
I would have chosen that.
I agree, back slaps should come before the Heimlich
I can't access it, but even if I answered the questions correctly, I would be rubbish in a medical emergency for anyone apart from the children (and maybe himself - as long as there was no blood or goo involved).
Q3 should also say that the bleeding limb should be elevated
I thought the Heimlich was a manouevre that required training in its own right so not for anybody to have a crack at.
I got 4/5 which I'm surprised about! Failed the CPR question.

To be honest in a proper emergency I would call 999.

Or come on here and ask Sqad.

As somebody who didn't have a clue I think the multiple choice answers helped. Without a 'prompt' I'd have been useless. I'm very impressed with ABers though, mostly 5's and a couple of 4's is damn good I think.
I have to admit, without the multiple choice my score would have been much lower.

Yep, it's the last one that's the problem.

Anybody ordered the booklet?
5/5. Heimlich should not be first resort - Potentially dangerous to the person you are doing it to :)

There are quite a few people now who suggest that rescue breaths can be omitted; chest compressions is the more important component....
