" Normal" Yoga poses may well help to reshape the body by re shaping muscles and improving posture but if doing the yoga doesn't help the practitioner to burn more calories than they eat, it's not gonna help with weightloss. Yoga was never designed or intended to help people to lose weight.

Every yoga pose has specific benefits for your body. Many people (even yoga practitioners) think that hard poses have more health benefits than easy poses. I think that is not always the case.
Woofgang is correct re. weight loss. Ordinary basic poses will help with toning the body.
Fast paced Ashtanga or Bikram(Hot) Yoga will help with weight loss but they are certainly not suitable forms of Yoga for everyone.
