Difficult to explain all my problems & worries but here goes.I have an irregular heartbeat & for a few days my pulse was in the region of 104 . systolic & diastolic no problem. Have recently seen a doctor at the hospital at the clinic of medicine (for the elderly) she arranged a 24 hr monitor on my heart the result being that my heart has a tendency to race at times & was going to write to my GP & suggest I take yet another tablet, I already take candesarton 2mg, bisoprolol 2.5mg, aspirin, furosemide 40mg & spironolactone 25 mg. I phoned my GP on Friday explained to the receptionist what was happening & asking if the new tablet had been prescribed. Don't know what she told him but a got a very quick return call saying I either had to go to A&E or dial 999.I did the latter & was checked by 2 paramedics , ECG etc, they phoned my GP & arranged for me to see him that afternoon. Now my main worry is that I have been prescribed Dilzen 60mg twice daily but not to start them until Monday when the Doctors will be in surgery so what do they expect will happen to me ? I have great difficulty with tablets they all seem to upset me. I am also anaemic so am having iron infusions, have had a capsule endoscopy to try to find the cause but as yet have had no results. would appreciate some feedback from you but have to close down soon to be with my husband who is disabled but will look in tomorrow morning.

To sum up, based on your medication, you have had high blood pressure for many years which is now controlled ( I assume) but it has had a negative effect on the pumping of blood from your heart. However, your medication would have stabilised your BP and also relieved the strain on you heart by slowing it down and reducing the force of it's contractions (beats)
You medication is standard treatment, well received, well tried and effective.
In this state of cardiac care irregularities are not that uncommon, but there are many types each differing in urgency, severity and treatment. They can be permanent (there all the time) intermittent (come and go) and if they are the former, it can be irregularly irregular or regularly irregular and only an ECG can determine which.
My guess with you is that the heart irregularities are intermittent (paroxysmal)
Dilzem....will ease the load off the heart and open up the blood vessels to give more blood to the heart muscle. You haven't mentioned chest pain, but they will also relieve that should it be due to angina (not enough blood going to the heart)
The anaemia is another problem that will need an explanation.
You certainly are "a creaking gate"........but as the saying goes "a creaking gate lasts a long time."

Thank you Squad for your helpful reply, I was really concerned as to what side effects I was likely to suffer from the Dilzen on my record of inability to stomach pills of any kind, I was told to up my Bisopril to 3.50 mg but couldn't take them, this really is a problem to me so had to go back to the 2.5 mg. You would not have liked me as a patient. Looking for the oil can for the creaking gate but can't find it. !!!!
I also suffer from many health issues. I was always told to exercise and eat right. It was not easy to do that with my heavy work schedule. Now, when I am in pain, I try to sit quietly and listen to some good meditation music. I do this whenever I can take a free moment. It usually helps to bring my heart rate down and makes me feel much better, even if it is just temporary.
