Stomach Ulcer Pain

Since around 4 or 5pm I've had a dull ache/pain in the upper part of my stomach and it doesn't feel like its going away any time soon. Whenever it has flared up in the past the pain goes on for several hours and into the night despite me downing loads of gaviscon and an antacid at the first sign of it.

This time I haven't taken anything as I don't have anything in the house. I drunk 3 mugs of warm milk earlier which usually takes the edge of the pain but its still really bad. I'm very tired but the pain is worse if I'm in a lying position so I can't go to bed.

Has anyone got any advice on how to ease this type of pain?

Hi tigger.....if you have nothing to take to ease the pain raw cabbage, honey or a banana are supposed to help. No first hand experience so I don't know for sure but maybe better than nothing. x

I've got some honey and raw cabbage but no bananas. I think honey would be more palatable at this time of night so I'll try it.

Thanks Gness x
Gness, I'm a big fan of home remedies and quick fixes. How should the raw cabbage be used?
Welcome...have heard you can juice the cabbage....never had the urge to juice a cabbage myself but if you can't sleep it would pass the time....;-)
Hope it eases...had an ulcer years ago and it's agony....x
Hi Society....you weren't there when I posted. Juice the cabbage and mix with something palatable I believe.....a friend mentioned it long time ago. I'd have to mix with plenty of Guinness I think. x
Thanks for that! x

Tigger, I wish your pain ease soon, and you get some sleep. x

Thanks Society, I hope it does too x

I've just had 3 spoonfulls of honey. It was runny once upon a time but its all crystalised now :o( think I need to get rid of the rest!
Don't throw out the honey. Sit the jar of honey in a container of hot water or microwave it for a few seconds. It would get back 'normal'.

I usually just add the crystallised honey to my very hot oatmeal and it melts and everything turns out good.

I've just blitzed it for 10 secs in the microwave. Seems to have done the trick Society :o)
Good girl :) I hate to see food waste. Now feel better. x

Neither do I. I've eaten the lot now so just waiting for the soothing bit to kick in......

Although still there, the honey seems to have taken the edge off the pain so I may get some sleep now.

Thanks Gness and Society. Night night :o) xxx
Hope you get some rest now Tigger.....I used to try to sleep well propped up.
Night....x
Tiggs...If you have an ulcer has your GP not given you medication?

I am surprised that the honey and cabbage juice hasn't worked.................;-)

If you are known to have a gastric ulcer then you should never be without an antacid and or Omeprazole.

How are you thid morning?
I thought the same, if you have a diagnosed ulcer have they not given you any medication or done any tests like helicobacter pylori or a camera down?

My gastroenterologist is a but sniffy about a diagnosis of an ulcer by a GP without it being diagnosed properly by a camera scan - I guess to make sure that is the proper diagnosis. I must admit, I thought I had a recurring ulcer a couple of years ago, turned out in the end to be gallstones.

The pain is agony, get back to your GP and make sure you have something in for further attacks of pain and get any further tests you need.

Hi all,

Ummmm, the first time I ever had this (over 10 years ago now) I went to the out of hours doc and he just prescribed an antacid which didn't help. I then went to my GP when it happened again and was prescribed a 28 day course of Omeprazole. I've actually been prescribed Omeprazole several times over the years but I still keeped getting the pain back, usually when I was stressed or ate something I shouldn't.

I feel ok this morning Sqad. Whenever there is the first sign of it flaring up I take an antacid and down loads of gaviscon. This is usually in the early evening. Even with this the pain gets worse and I'm usually in agony until around 3 or 4 in the morning until it starts to subside.

Eve, my friends used to say that I just had indigestion or heartburn. Well I've had indigestion and heartburn before and a Rennie usually does the trick within half an hour. The pain that I get is something else and goes on into the night. Its even worse than the worst preiod pain I've ever had.
Ahhh Sqad...behave yourself....if you had a pain and only a cabbage you'd give it a try! ;-) Now be useful if you're not too busy loving in Menorca...and tell me if my reply to Tigger still applies.....this one not the cabbage....please. x
Hi Tigger....I developed an ulcer when I was very young. Tagamet had just come on the market so I was a bit of a guinea pig. I took it for ages and, when I stopped taking it, the ulcer seemed to have healed/cleared. Never get a hint of it now.
Do you just take pills when you have the pain?
Sqad.....is a long course of a modern version of Tagamet used now?
If you have an ulcer you should be on repeat.

My OH has one. x
Oh and Tigg....tell Sqad you've had the best night's sleep ever after juicing the cabbage.....just to humour me.....;-) x
