Is this a fasting test? It doesn`t seem clear and the doctor didn`t mention it either way.

mine always is, cut off is usually 10pm and the test is always booked for early the next morning
Yepp! 10 hours before the test.

That is for the patient, NOT you 237 ;-)
you've got me doubting myself now SJ lol I know I have had a couple fo fasting tests this last year but they may have been the cholesterol ones, I have a thyroid test once a year. Actually yes it will be the fasting one that is the thyroid one, or will it? I've been having them since 1987 and I can;t remember! lol

Thanks for the replies. I seriously need my cup of strong Kenyan tea in the morning so I wouldn`t fare well if it was me.
Mum had slightly raised levels of calcium in the blood tests that the doctor did and he wants to check the parathyroid gland. I`m really hoping it`s that but it seems to be too much of a coincidence really.
DJH.....you are getting mixed up with thyroid and parathyroid tests.
Question Author
DJ - parathyroid isn`t the thyroid gland. It`s something different. Thanks anyway.
237....don't worry.

A raised calcium in the blood is extremely....extremely unlikely to be due to cancer.

Hyperparathyroidism in a woman of 80+....very very unlikely.
cholesterol is 9pm the night before

She had breast cancer about 5 years ago though Sqad which makes me worried. The only straw I`m clutching at the moment is that she is on a thiazide drug (Bendro etc long word lol) and calcium/vit D tablets, the combination of which can raise serum calcium levels. The GP has put her back to the oncologist who is organising a bone scan. We`ll just have to see, I guess.
237...I know! I know!...let me know the results as i am interested.

My bet.........the drug combination.,,;-)

I hope so. Google is lethal sometimes - the expression "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing" comes to mind.
I agree......Google is a nightmare....i would hate to be in practice in the era of Google....

cholesterol is 9pm the night before \\\

Are you sure it is not 9.12pm?.................;-)
I had kidney stones a few year ago because of a parathyroid problem. Luckily I passed the last stone on the same morning I was due to have the operation to remove them.
Question Author
I was at the health centre this morning to pick up a prescription and the receptionist said that the Parathyroid test isn`t fasting. I`m a bit confused now...
LOL.......well.....take the advice of the receptionist.......they seem to run the GP part of the NHS.
This is very rare for me....this is the third link that i have produced today....

Your call 237.

That`s a website that I happended across the other day Sqad. The only thing I can think is that they do things differently in the US
\\ The only thing I can think is that they do things differently in the US \\

I should bloody hope so..;-)
237...Let me be honest.....it doesn't matter a damn in my opinion as the results will be normal anyway. I know that doesn't help...but that is what i feel.
