I have had a cold since Tuesday. The cold itself is not now too much of a problem. But I have a dry hacking cough (non productive) which is persistent - despite my drinking copious amounts of orange juice to try and calm my poor throat. This means that for the last 4 nights I have had little sleep - eg last night I had one hour of uninterrupted sleep all night.
I'm at my wits end because I am so exhausted. What do you recommend to stop this damn cough?
Mr BM is going to Boots as soon as it opens to talk to the pharmacist but anything anyone can suggest in the meantime would be helpful.
Try Googling for 'effective coughing technique', most of us actually cough ineffectively so exhaust ourselves easily, physiotherapists came up with a great way of loosening the mucus to enable us to expectorate it.
I've been doing this for a month. At night I just concentrate on getting to sleep rather than treating the coughing (as nothing works for the cough): night nurse, sleeping pill, whatever.
I've had the same, and benelyn works for me quite well - it doesn't stop the coughing, but I'm getting a bit more sleep in between coughing fits - hope you feel better soon - it's very exhausting.
I've got the same trouble, hence on AB as I can't sleep for coughing! I bought Covonia for chesty coughs which does soothe throat slightly & stops the cough for a little while. Try sucking Jakemans throat sweets, again soothing. Hope you (& I) feel better soon.
