obviously i know to get it down i need to improve diet and exercise etc

am i at risk though of collapsing any time soon due to a dodgy ticker?

Have you been given a breakdown of the HDL and LDL or just a total?
Well, you don't say how high or the ratio of the components (HDL and LDL)

Have you got a family history of heart disease?

Have you got a family history of strokes or diabetes.

\\\\am i at risk though of collapsing any time soon due to a dodgy ticker?\\

The answer is "almost certainly not" but without the above questions being answered, i cannot give you a more meaningful answer.

I lowered my own cholesterol by starting the day with porridge. There is a bit of a debate on cholesterol levels. The body manufactures it so it is not all bad, and not totally within your control. It is also needed for your muscles etc. My daughter got me a book The Great Cholesterol Con.

Cholesterol lowering drug companies make billions.
I,m sick of doctors banging on about this cholesterol stuff. I am brderline type 2 diabetic and don't eat all that nice stuff everyone enjoys but it was 5.8 on my last check up.
One thing is certain porridge is very good to lower levels but more importantly we produce our own levels and they are unique to us.
