What Is Causing My Tiredness ?
85 Answers
Taking tabs as doctor said I was low on iron, but my tiredness is extreme at the moment, everything is an effort. Nothing showed up on tests at the doctors. I sleep soundly at night for about 7-8 hours and have a sleep in the afternoon as well, but I am tired all the time

It sounds as though you're having triuble absorbing iron and I would suggest you try the supplements from a health food shop rather than from a chemist.
All iron supplements are not the same. Ferrous iron (e.g. ferrous sulphate) is much better absorbed than ferric iron (e.g. ferric citrate). The most common form of iron supplement is ferrous sulphate, but it is known to produce intestinal side effects (such as constipation, nausea, and bloating) in many users. Other forms of iron supplements are readily absorbed and less likely to cause side effects.
Have a chat with someone in a health store and swap to something which might cost a little more but which will be more affective.

Like most, it suggested low thyroid activity to me. However now it seems to implicate iron deficiency as a primary cause of your tiredness. Greens should perhaps include spinach and brocolli. Also bump up your red meat intake - bacon, liver and beef. In the latter case, if like most you cannot afford regular beef steak, do not underestimate high quality (low fat) mince meat such as scottish minced beef. Don't be misled into treating beefburghers as "junk food" - they are not (even horse meat is good for you, lol).
I start with diet because supplements alone should not be the answer alone.
I am surprised your doctor is not concentrating on finding out the cause of your anaemia, like vitamin B12 status which is needed for dietary iron absorption. Even in the interim, your doc should be advising on an iron supplement - Feroglobulin is available over-the-counter in some pharmacists and contains B12.
A good iron-status is very important in areas as well as oxygen-carrying haemoglobin notably immune cell activity and various key enzymes.
Forget about vitamin D! Nothing implicates this "bone-health" vitamin which you boost by going out regularly in the sun anyway.
Typical doctor here - "treatment with tabs" before in-depth diagnosis. What's in these tablets and why?

Blood test fine, no diabetes.
I am on ferrous 305m one twice a day. Just started these off the doc as I bought a course before I was diagnosed and took the course off my own bat, started these ones about 3 days ago.
There is 100 in the carton.
Blood pressure a little high, being monitored as I have never had a problem with this. Colestorol a little high.
I eat lots of greens, I am not a lover of a lot of red meat TBH

B12 deficiency would show up on the blood film....it didn't

She doesn't need B12 (blood film) and doctor is giving iron by mouth...standard treatment.

I am sure that the doctor asked about blood loss.

You have had a lot of experience with "typical Drs" have you?

Dear Sqad,
Thanks for comments/questions addressed to me. I have become aware of your clinical knowledge over the years by reading youR sound advice. Indeed ABers seem, rightly, to regard you as the doctor of first or second opinion. From my own career researching human chemistry and treatments I am no slouch but that's enough of that aspect.
I'll happily address your comments but it's a bit late tonight. I'll reply asap, probably in bite-size bits as I suffer from the serious condition of verbosity.
With kindest regards and in deep respect,
