I think they have to now, Eccles. Who knows who they were massaging before you! Plus all the different oils on their skin. It's not personal, really. Enjoy your wine x
Gness, I have never, ever known a therapist use gloves for facials or massages. I accept they are used for body scrubs, mud treatments and sometime pedicures.
I haven't used this salon before as it isn't local to me, so I don't know their SOP, however much was made about 'what is wrong with my skin' before they started.
It is the norm to use a light surgical type glove for all treatments in the salon i go to, this is not to protect you from them or them from you, it is to protect them from the product.
The fact that the first therapist made a point of telling me she was going to wear gloves indicates it is not a legislative ruling. I have no idea what the hygiene rules are and may investigate later this evening.
In the meantime I will repeat that I have never, ever had a therapist use gloves for a facial or massage and I have regular treatments at a range of salons. Given that the Guinot salon opposite the Guinot UK HQ don't use gloves for treatments I seriously doubt there is any ruling mandating the use of gloves.
I'm sorry Eccles, I didn't mean to be flippant. I feel rotten now.
I think that they were probably a little bit insensitive with the way they dealt with it by making such a bloody fuss beforehand. Do you have another salon with whom you are more comfortable and who are a little more sensitive to people's feelings?
i have just phoned the girl who does my pedicures and she says they wear gloves incase they are allergic to any of the products they use or incase they are allergic to any products the client might use that they come into contact with. However, she does say if she wears gloves for any treatment she would as a matter of curtosy explain the reason to the client, i.e. for her skin protection from products not for anything else.
Fair enough, Eccles. I would be interested to know if you find out. I know with care work, you are supposed to use gloves, but most people only do with body fluids, so experience isn't always the same as law. I'm sorry you felt uncomfortable with it though. That's not fair x
Eccles...unless things have changed very recently a massage with gloves is not acceptable.
We were taught to recognise many skin conditions and one of my regular clients had psoriasis over the whole body....I knew what it looked like, it's in my family...and he received the same massage as all my clients.
Psoriasis is not contagious and can benefit from a good massage. A good massage is not possible while wearing gloves....a massage is..but not a good massage.
I have massaged many people with skin conditions. They told me and, if it was one I was not familiar with they explained it...but that was rare.
The therapists were at fault...not you and they won't keep clients if their knowledge is so limited....I'll do the Irish widow's curse on them for you if you like?
Now have another glass! Gx
Sherrard, I'm out of town and fancied some pampering.....didn't work out though!
Don't feel rotten Barmaid! I won't be going back, for a number of reasons, location, poor quality service, short-timing me......I couldn't give a toss about all that but it was quite apparent that they do not always wear gloves as I was told gloves would not be worn for the facial.
I'm going to buy a box of cornflakes and stick the individual flakes to their front door to see how they feel about being a flaky/scaly being!
