Nhs Dental Charges

I lost a 'crown' a couple of months ago and had to have a new one fitted on a bridge. I paid £18 for the initial consultation then £214 when it was fitted. About a month ago I went for the check up (of the bridge) and he included my 6monthly check up when he said I needed a small filling. I paid £18 but they also gave me a bill for £49 which I have to pay tomorrow after I have the filling and scale and polish. I queried the first £18 at the time but they said it was correct, but I have my doubts whether I should be paying £67 total for the latest treatment, surely the bill should be £49.Can anyone enlighten me on this please? -rosy

Thank you for that frugalfred, I had already printed it out to take with me tomorrow, but I want to know what anyone else thinks I should be paying, the way I read the link I think it should be £49 total but I wonder if I am reading it correctly (bit worried he will take me off his list for being a troublemaker) :0) -rosy

I had a filling plus a scale & polish last year. When I went for the check up I paid £18. Then when the treatment was finished I paid £31 so Band 2 treatment £49.
My partner went about 4 years ago and he had a complete new set of dentures which was just over £200 so that would have been band 3.

Thank you for replying sycamore, yes that is the way I calculated it too, just wanted some verification before I query the bill (if it is for £49 I mean) -rosy

If the filling and scale & polish were advised at your 6-monthly exam, they should be carried out as part of the same 'course of treatment'. This would incur a single 'Band 2' payment of £49 for the exam, filling and scale & polish.

Not an answer but I find hygienist a bit of a rip off. Last time dentist referred me due to minor gum prob. It cost £30 for a few minutes work which as far as I can see should/could have been done by the dentist under level 1.

Just a quick update, I was only charged £31 so was pleased about that. I suppose the original £18 when I needed the bridge/denture was because it wasn't my usual 6monthly check up, but I still think it is a bit of a 'grey' area tho' (the charge -not my teeth -lol ) Thanks again to all who replied -rosy
