Removing Wedding Rings
12 Answers
My friends fingers have swollen quite a lot (due to an increase in weight I think ) I hinted that this may be the cause, but she asked me if they get any worse and she had to have her wedding ring cut off, would she have to go to a Jeweller or the Hospital. I didnt know and thought someone on here might know.

The fire brigade are happy to help with stuff like this, just go to the fire station and ask them nicely. Don't Actually call them out unless it really is an emergency. Obviously if they are on an emergency call you will need to call back later but normally they actually love to help.

If at all possible I would suggest she tries to remove it now by holding her hand in very cold water for a while and then lots of lubricant.
If it is too late for that then proper jewellers can usually do it.
My mother got stung by a bee on her ring finger and had her rings cut off by the fire brigade!

I would get the ring off NOW before it causes a problem in the middle of the night as my engagement ring did. I slept on my hand on a hot night and woke in the night with a finger like a sausage. I cut it off myself with nail clippers but it was a thin band on a ring with sones in, not a wedding band.
I'd get them off now if I were her, she could always get it resized. I've stopped wearing rings as my fingers swell a lot through arthritis. They can always be worn on a chain round the neck.
Better than a potential emergency and having them cut off for her.
Years ago I wore a watch with a tight metal mesh strap. It ended up meshed somehow I couldn't get it off and had to as I was having my wisdom teeth out under general anaesthetic so my dad decided to have a go with a pair of pliers and (arghhh) a hacksaw! It just made it worse and much tighter so we had to go to the local firestation for them to cut it off.
It was a bit of an emergency as it was starting to cut off my circulation.
She should remove it without relying on options like taking up the time of the fire service.

Totally irrlelevant bu a memory has been triggered....
When I was a little girl I was given/bought/acquired some plastic handcuffs. After shackling my friend and then discovering no means of release, having experimented with hacksaws and Stanley knives......my Dad came home.
I shudder thinking of what could have happened.......
