Anemia
2 Answers
Having had a knee replacement in June my 76 yr old brother in law is permanently tired. He had a blood test a week ago and now told he is Anemic.
I read, giving tablets to bring his iron levels up is a slow process. Is there a quicker way to help him feel less tired, sooner?
Speaking about this with my sister, she is now saying she is thinking of buying Iron Tablets from the Health food shop for herself as she too is permanently tired....may well be she has worn herself out looking after the patient. Is this wise to buy without a GP consultation?

No ...certainly not.
cuptee......he should do or take nothing until his doctor has found out from what type of anaemia he is suffering. There are many types from which a 76 year old could suffer and taking tablets could compromise further investigations.
The commonest by far is an iron deficiency anaemia and it's speed and method of treatment would depend upon the severity of the anaemia.
