Pravastatin Tablets

I have been prescribed pravastatin to help lower my cholesterol but on the leaflet it says don't take grapefruit juice without asking your doctor first, anyone know why ?

because it counteracts your medicine.
Yes, it's very risky to take statins with grapefruit. It depends on the dosage of your tablets, but some say that a small glass of juice from time to time doesn't do any harm, others say don't touch grapefruit at all. Shame, because I love it :-(

thankyou all, hope it's not the same for oranges
If i was taking statins (which I am not) and wanted the odd glass of grapefruit juice with,say breakfast, i would not hesitate, perhaps once or twice a week.

Do not get neurotic about drug taking.
No, oranges are fine, it's something peculiar to grapefruit.
No...neurotic is the wrong word......obsessive is the correct one.

thanks Sqad,I have got to the age of 69 and never been on medication so excuse me if I seem a bit apprehensive,thanks all for the imput
fishing.......I understand, sometimes i think that medical advice often loses a sense of reality and frightens the life out of patients.
