Heat Rash

I walk quite a bit in a Walking Club and wear the usual gear : socks, boots, waterproof trousers etc. I always seem to get a red rash on my lower legs mostly around the ankles and above. It's quite sore and itchy and takes several days to subside. I think I must be allergic to the elastic in the socks and waterproof trousers. The chemist gave me a gel for chickenpox relief. Is there some fabric that I can wear to prevent it or a lotion I can apply before walking so that it doesn't recur?

Try Dettol cream. Does anyone else suffer this rash? or are you being bitten by minute insects?

Thanks butterbun. No, I'm definitely not being bitten. I must be allergic to certain fabrics.
Try wearing different socks and see if you still get the rash.

Have tried that, boxtops and still get it!
Would it be worth getting something like a merino base layer that you can pull your socks up over so that they are not in contact with your skin - would that work? I`d try hydrocortisone or antihistamine for the rash.
If it's an allergy, take an anti -histamine before you go? Or use an anti-histamine cream around that area. if that doesn't help, maybe try a barrier cream like sudocrem.
