Can Type 2 Diabetes Be Reversed By Diet Or Am I Out Of Insulin
19 Answers
HI I am wondering if I am running out of insulin. I am a type 2 diabetic and my hba1c test was 77 Ive been told to go and see GP on wednesday. I am now worried I am running out of insulin. If I am being totally honest I have a terrible diet with at least 1 bar of chocolate and a bag of sweets a day at the very least. I am wondering if I really reduce my sugar intake now could it make a difference or is insulin looking likely I am only 41 but the last few weeks been very tired. So I could see the advantage of insulin. I am on 4 metformin and 2 glipazide a day

However, for goodness sake, start taking better care of yourself. A diabetic eating sweets every day is beyond stupid. Do you really want to have legs amputated in a few years time....??? This can happen if diabetes is not managed. Not sure what you mean by "running out of insulin". Your body has decided that it has had enough of your diet and is battling back. Listen to it.
No, it's not the case. The pills help but you have to take control yourself to help yourself. Cut your sweet intake, NOW. When you see the GP, be honest and tell him you've not been watching your diet. You have to help yourself - taking the tablets won't be any use if you still carry on stuffing rubbish into your body.
Gordie, with an hba1c of 77 your insulin will be nothing but a distant memory!
My daughter is an insulin dependent diabetic (for 23 years) she also has a dreadful sweet tooth, (still has to a degree) she has learned to moderate her sweeties intake over the years - believe me it is no picnic! You really must do something about this, the consequences if you continue to bury your head in the sand will be dire. As a result of my daughter's poor sugar level control in the past she has recently had to have laser treatment on her eyes as there was a danger of her losing her sight because of her poor control, and her determination that "she knew best" (she didn't want to be a diabetic and tried her level best to ignore it) and would not listen to the advice she was given.
Now, she has realised that she doesn't know best and regrets her attitude, and is now more or less on an even keel. It is your turn now to do the sensible thing, go and see your doctor or even your diabetic nurse they will get you sorted out. Please listen to their advice and do what they ask you to do, you will be the one who benefits. The consequences of continuing to eat your sweeties and not following good diet could be dire. You run the risk of blindness, kidney troubles even amputation if you carry on down this road.
For your own sake Gordie seek professional help, everyone on AB has encouraged you to do this in the past, we are not the ones you need to ask for advice any more you must see a doctor.

You are better to start insulin than upping the tablets. It is not like type one where you run out it is harder for your body to get its insulin out. People see insulin as last resort or failure but it is not and truth is after 10 years of being type 2 you will need to be on insulin anyway. It is true diet can help with type two the misconception is the sugary foods like sweets and chocolate are bad but is the carbs that raise your blood glucose a jacket potato would impact on you a lot more than a Mars bar trust me
