Warfarin Abuse

Yes, it is. Warfarin's a serious drug, and presumably it's keeping you alive. Don't abuse it.

Going by your previous posts you have only been taking Warfarin for around 3 months, that isn't long at all.

Alcohol will only thin your blood more and while taking warfarin you are not doing yourself any favours. Good job you don't do that every night. Warfarin does not control your life it is actually saving it. don't be a knob.

That amount of alcohol would be foolish for anyone in one night, never mind someone on warfarin.

I do sympathise. My late mother was a tablet controlled diabetic and my late husband took various tablets for his multiple and nasty problems. Rebelling against the regime is not uncommon but its not a good idea either.

I know lots of answers, but there are no comforting ones, warfarin doesn't actually thin the blood, fact !! , it is just anti-coagulant , I am at moderate risk, if I was low risk I would be on aspirin, I will not have my life controlled by drugs that are not a FIX, warfarin is for A F , have tracked warfarin doses and alcohol levels deliberately, alcohol has no effect on inr , but gp insists I should stay on it but feel it is typical nhs procedure, not easy this , but refuse to give in

Please take this drug responsibly, it is not advisable or clever to mix any drug with alcohol, but warfarin is even more complicated and should be take as per your dosage and not to be mixed with any alcohol at no circumstances. There is a reason, a very strong reason why you are on this medication, so please take it seriously.Now go get a flat cola! .

Manny Shinwell, some of you may remember him, put down his longevity, he died aged 101, to a glass of whiskey every night of his life.

At the time I loathed whiskey, but I persevered, and now follow his creed!

Sometimes there are no alternatives but to handle what you have as best you can.

Probably because there are no alternatives especially not alcohol which can antagonise the anti-coagulant effect of Warfarin.

My husband takes many tablets for 2 serious conditions. No way would he compromise the effects by mixing with alcohol. I suggest you think the same way if you want to live a while longer.

I doubt the NHS give drugs out without good reason.
