Hi all, hope you can help me in solving what this problem is. For about 8 years now, every few months, I get a terrible pain on the left hand side of my stomach, it seems to start around the kidney area, and work it's way around the left hand side of my stomach, and then down around the pelvic area. But only on the left hand side. It makes me feel quite sickly, but as soon as I sit down it eases. I have been to my GP about this, he did have a feel around the area, but he seemed to think that it was something to do with me having a back problem. The pain is a burning sensation, and seems to re-occur every 6 months or so. Any help or advice would be really grateful. Thanks X

I'm surprised at your GP. With a recurring problem like this he should be doing tests.

With the areas you're talking about it sounds like a UTi (urinary tract infection) which is very common in women and these are often recurrent. Have a look at this weblink and see if the symptons sounds familiar:

If it does, then I suggest you re-visit your GP and tell him to do his job!!!

I suffered form something very similar, however it was on my right hand side. I used to get extreme pains on the right hand side, near my ovaries and sometimes around the back, but it was so bad it sometimes had me in tears. After a lot of tests through the usual gynae route, I ended up going for a laparoscopy (tiny camera through your belly button) It was actually discovered I had a distended (twisted) bowel which was causing me to have IBS. Trust me, I was extremely surprised to hear that and as relieved as I was, it was good to know it wasn't something more severe. (Even though IBS is a nightmare)

Thanks Champagne and Karen. I have an appointment to see the Doctor on Wednesday, not in relation to this, but I will certainly bring it up. Thanks, your help was much appreciated.

Champagne, I looked on the link you gave me, very interesting, some of the symptoms, like the burning sensation in the side sounded really familiar, but it mentioned water infections I have had one of these a few years back so I know what that feels like, must admit though I haven't had any of those symtoms. Thanks again.
