I have had a tooth ache for a long time now. I went to the dentist. She said she would X-ray it and call me if there was a problem. She didn't call back . It got worse, so I made sure I used tepe interdentals well and corsydil mouth wash. It started getting a bit better. But for the last few days iv had an incredible headache.. Just on that side, that goes behind my eye, through my jaw and even aches in my throat. It makes the skin on that side of my head sore to the touch. It does come and go, but getting increasingly more. I don't have a temp. I don't know if I should be going to the doc or dentist.. Or what it could be.. As I know if I go to the docs, they will tell me to go away and come back on a few weeks if no better!!
Any ideas.. Thank you
That sounds like a dental abscess to me. Either a doctor or dentist can prescribe the antibiotics that you need to deal with the immediate problem but only a dentist can sort out the underlying problem.
I've had more than my fair share of tooth abscesses. Never had a temperature but did have intense pain that went along the jaw right into my ear and round to my eye socket. Only antibiotics can sort that out before anything can be done for the tooth.
alternate nurofen and paracetamol (or cocodamol if you have any, it's stronger) every couple of hours. I don't know why this didn't show up on X-ray, perhaps its a different problem from your previous toothache? Anyway, back to the dentist.
Well they can get better on their own in that the pain goes away but only once it's killed the tooth and you will eventually lose it. Then you'll have the tooth fairy to answer to.
Go back to the dentist - it'll only get worse if you don't - you probably need antibiotics before they can do anything to help. If you go to a doctor and it's dental, they'll only send you to the dentist. Ring them tomorrow.
They might, but my doctor said I had to check with the dentist what the problem was, first - they won't prescribe until they know what they are prescribing for - in my experience.
