Dopamine

My OH just had CABG x3. After surgery he had a sliding scale still up (diabetic) there was also dopamine going in. If Sqad is available, can he or anyone else tell me why dopamine?

In simple terms:

After CABG......it is not uncommon for the blood sugar to rise both in diabetics and in non diabetics........insulin may need to be given in both cases.

After CABG.....it is not uncommon for the blood pressure to fall, for reasons other than blood loss..........dopamine reverses the change if given by IV infusion.

That's it ..in a nutshell.

Thank you once again,I'll pass it on. He's only 59 so quite the "baby" on the ward. The surgeon,the staff and the care at Papworth is exceptional.

His surgeon even has a friend who is a consultant cardiologist in Abu Dhabi. So GY can get follow up care when we go back. Only 18 months left and then we're back for good.
