Would You Drink Wine, Beer Etc If It Was Alcohol Free But Tasted Exactly The Same?

I was out this afternoon with the good lady in a nice pub with the three hounds, we were having a lovely time , I had a couple of pints and was feeling the effects of the alcohol, tired etc (always has this affect if I drink in the afternoon) and it got me thinking that if I could still drink the real ale that I was drinking but without the alcohol I would have loved to have stayed longer.

I know all about alcohol free beer etc. but it really doesn't taste the same and you can taste the lack of alcohol.

What about you guys and girls?

The thing I hate most about beer is the fizziness. Can't drink anything fizzy. Still, some wines taste very nice... if only they had no alcohol in them, I sometimes wish... so "yes".

I might drink alcohol free beer if I wanted a long, fizzy non sweet drink but I wouldn`t bother with alcohol free wine - I`d rather have a glass of water.

Hi, Ratter.....I like the effect of one glass of wine....would be happy to go to alcohol free then....if it tasted the same.

Mind you...the daughter still laughs about the time a colleague and I got quite tipsy after an OFSTED....We sat in my conservatory and got sillier and sillier.....giggling and singing.
Mother! daughter asked after being disturbed during revision...Whatever are you drinking?

Oh...I replied....some new drink called J20....We've had a few bottles....it's quite nice and just a little intoxicating....we need it....hic.

You do realise there is no alcohol in it?.....said the puzzled daughter....

So...I guess we thought ourselves into tipsiness.......☺

Also I cant drink that fizzy beer, I only drink real ale.

I remember years ago there was an alcohol free beer called I think Kaliber that was supposed to be as good as the real thing.It wasn't and it soon disappeared off the market.

I had Kaliber a few times but it didnt taste like a real beer, I thought you could still get it.

I think what ratter is asking is if they tasted exactly the same (and certainly Kaliber was nothing like beer) would you still drink it. In a roundabout way he's asking if the alcohol is an essential ingredient.

I had alcohol free Heinekin in Saudi Arabia once. It was very strange - had an overbearing taste of hopps. Lately, I have tried Becks Blue, Bavaria and Cobra Zero. The Cobra had a strange aftertaste, the Becks is OK but lacks "bite" and the Bavaria was the best of the bunch IMO. None of them are the same as the real thing though.

237SJ, they have been trying to make it for years but it never really works out, it either has a strange taste or a taste of "there is something missing" well of course, there is something missing.
