i should have realised this subject had been posted before
Give it time and it'll reach 275 a day, and we will all be berated for making a lifestyle choice not to comply.

5 is bad enough, with 7 one would have to eat nothing but veg. No bread, or carbs of any sort, no meat. I think it is a vegetarian plot. No matter what the research results if the conclusion reached is impractical then those giving the advice will just be held in low regard, and it will be ignored.

You do know the portion sizes are really small?
If an apple is just one portion they aren't that small.
It's advised that a small handful is a portion so it would also depend on the size of your hands.
Fruit and veg *are* carbs...just not the starchy sort.
Different countries have different numbers, some are already 6 or 7 or 8.

Because the UK does not eat a lot of fruit or vegetables as it was felt better to start low, with 5, then try and raise it as times goes on.

After all, no point in starting with 7 if most people in the UK only eat 2 or 3.

So start with 5, a possible achievable number.
