Pain In Lower Back With Blisters/rash

My mum aged 67 has had a terrible pain in her lower back all night with blisters and a rash in the same area (no rash elsewhere). The rash has gone this morning and the pain has eased off. Any idea what it could have been? She wondered if it is shingles. She had chicken pox as a child, not sure if that is relevant. I'm concerned, not only for her, but she is looking after my 19m old daughter all day tomorrow and if it something nasty I don't want her to catch it. Any ideas?

Yes...I agree ...it certainly sounds like shingles.

Before you said the rash had gone and pain eased I thought it might be shingles, so I'm not sure. Looked it up and you can get chicken pox from shingles if you're exposed to the shingles rash, so presumably if the rash is on the back clothing would cover it.

\\\\The rash has gone this morning \\\\....but i have presumed that the blisters are still present.if the blisters have gone as well as the rash, then go with roopower.
If the blisters are still there.....it's shingles and see your GP tomorrow for antiviral medication.

Thanks for your answers. My mum said the rash and blisters have gone this morning but the area still hurts, but nowhere near as painful as it was last night. And my daughter is 19 months old, not years. I'll tell her to go to her GP tomorrow, assuming they are open as its a bank holiday.
